When I was asked to preface Inside Crime and Prison, a book written by Dr. César Barros Leal, I thought above all of the honor that this represented to me, given the characteristics of Mr. Barros in all the spaces in which he develops his activities. Dr. Barros brings together admirable traits regardless of the territory in which he walks, as he has had a brilliant scientific and academic career reflected in his extensive bibliography, which includes books and numerous articles in scientific journals and collective works in the most diverse areas of criminological, legal, and humanistic knowledge. The bibliography produced by the author extends to topics as current as electronic monitoring of offenders, criminal responsibility of minors, and restorative justice.

Inside: Crime and Prison and Other Studies contains a series of texts presented at seminars and congresses in different countries across America, Europe, and Asia over the past three decades (1997-2020). Some of these were discussed at meetings of the American Society of Criminology in the United States and Canada.
The texts have been kept as they were originally presented, preserving the authentic research from each period. Some lectures were later converted into articles and published in international journals and books, while others were distributed among participants of the Brazilian Interdisciplinary Course on Human Rights, organized by the Brazilian Institute of Human Rights and the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights in Fortaleza, Ceará State, Brazil.
Most texts deal with the phenomenon of crime, prison, and alternative sentencing, but other studies address the juvenile justice system in Brazil and environmental refugees. The final section includes a glossary of foreign words in French, German, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, and Spanish, along with an alphabetical index and name index.
Ideal for criminology students, legal professionals, researchers, and anyone interested in understanding the complex dynamics of criminal justice systems globally.
